The first predecessor of today's GrillSymbol is the blacksmith Johannes Moisar, who opened a blacksmith and iron shop in Tallinn in Paldiskistrasse in 1925. Among other things, small iron pans and various spare parts for fireplaces and stoves were also manufactured in the forge.
With the arrival of Soviet power in 1940, the company was nationalized and as a result of various associations, products were no longer accessible to the public and valuable experience was lost. So passed 57 years. Then the Estonian Republic became independent again, business was allowed again and had good prospects.
In order to restore historical continuity, brothers Ivar and Laur Suurväli have renewed family traditions. In 1997, the company Symbol OÜ was founded and thus the first pans were produced. They were much larger than in 1925, but made of the same material as back then. The experience of several generations confirms that with correct use, the useful life of an iron pan with a thick bottom can be up to 100 years.
In 2008, the company GrillSymbol OÜ was founded to produce such pans, which also meet the high demands of the customers. Today, our most popular product line, which bears the name "PRO", has grown out of it. How professional. Products of the PRO line are durable and safe, they are easy to care for and can be used for a long time.
In the years 2006-2007 we expanded our product range and have dedicated ourselves to the production of the smoking grills in addition to the production of the pans. In our product development, we have used the experience of several BBQ masters who have participated in BBQ competitions in Estonia, Germany and Great Britain with our pans. Our Q-series ovens are highly appreciated by both professionals and household consumers because the meat made tastes incomparably good.
In 2016 we launched our "Basic" line on the market. Compared to "PRO" line, "Basic" is cheaper and has only basic details that a pan needs.
In 2017, we returned to our roots and revived our experience in the production of fireplaces. Our fire bowls are made of Cor-Ten steel and designed according to the Nordic lifestyle: simplicity, functionality and weatherproof material are combined with mythological symbols. Today, the collection has grown to 14 models and is supplemented by new models every year.
In 2018, our range of Cor-Ten steel products was expanded and we launched a collection of flower pots and modular WoodStock shelves. In the current year 2021, we will enter the market with several new product lines and supplement the existing ones. The share of product development becomes more important in our work from year to year. We are constantly trying to surprise our old and new customers with new products and already offer the trends of tomorrow.
GrillSymbol is a family business. Today, the fifth generation is already growing with new and fresh ideas and our products are manufactured as before in the Tallinn plant. In 2025, GrillSymbol celebrates its 100th anniversary.
